Indians & Cultural Encounters

What did Timberlake say that was wrong?

Because farming was considered a man’s job in Europe, Timberlake assumed that women could only do this work because the land was so fertile that it was easy to grow things. While the land may have been fertile, women did the farming in Cherokee households because it was considered a woman’s job. They did the work whether or not the land was easy to farm.
